Research Interests: My research is focused on understanding human-microbial interactions and how that information can be used to improve human health. This includes the development of novel bioinformatic methods for microbiome analysis and the application of these methods to both clinical and animal model studies. In particular, I am interested in drug metabolism by the gut microbiome and how the human microbiome varies with age, diet, and exercise.

Research Interests: My research is focused on understanding how microbes influence ocean biogeochemistry. I am particularly interested in how micronutritional requirements shape interactions between phytoplankton and bacteria and what the consequences of those requirements are for global biogeochemical cycling. I use quantitative mass spectrometry- based proteomic techniques, along with both field and laboratory experiments, to ask these questions.
